Yes, we know that this depiction of Walther von der Vogelweide from Manesse's song manuscript technically belongs to the late Middle Ages. But he lived in the High Middle Ages, roughly from 1170 to 1230. Known primarily for his love and political poems, he polarized contemporary poets.
Walther, especially with Manesse's depiction, has made it into almost every presentation and book about "the Middle Ages" and represents the High Middle Ages in our collection.
